About Student Services

The Student Services department is designed to meet the needs of our diverse student population by working collaboratively to remove barriers that impede students’ success. Programs and services include special education, gifted education, social work services, health and school nurse services, school psychologist services, school counseling services, the SAP Program (Student Assistance Program), and school-based counseling.

Student Assistance Program

The District's Student Assistance Program (SAP) is part of a state-wide initiative designed to help school systems identify and support students who are experiencing barriers to learning. Through a systematic process, Palmyra's SAP will help identified students, and their families, access school and community resources with the goal of removing the barriers to learning and helping the student succeed in school.

At the core of the program are the district's SAP teams, which are made up of school staff who have been trained to work with at-risk students. At Palmyra, the SAP program is available at all buildings, K-12. The number one priority for each team is to help students and/or their families find the services and assistance within the school and, if needed, in the community.

Maintaining confidentiality is of utmost importance within the Palmyra’s SAP Teams. All team members receive training on the collection, maintenance, release, and destruction of information. All team members are expected to demonstrate respect for and understanding of parents’ and students’ privacy rights.
